Living Spaces is our augmented reality App that helps you visualise how our Urban Ladder sofas look in your home, whether they fit your space, match the rest of your decor, and which colours suit the colour of your walls. This app lets you virtually place our sofa designs in your living room, move them around to different positions, and change sofa models, colours, and configurations, all with a few simple taps! Honestly, sofa buying has never been easier.
With this App, we have tried to keep the interactions as real and natural as possible, and the sofa design considers real-world imperfections (for instance, wrinkled cushions) to make sure that what you see is a realistic visual of things.
How does it work?
Using the simple interface, you can choose the sofa you want to try from the Urban Ladder catalogue
The camera from your mobile device turns on and as you pan it around the room, the sofa design moves with the view, letting you see what it looks like in different parts of the room
You get a marker sheet of A3 size from the Urban Ladder website, which you can use to mark a specific position for the sofa in the room, and a life-sized visual of the sofa design will appear at this position
You can play with the sofa design and position as many times as you want till you hit upon the perfect living room configuration
Tips to set up your living room
Your living room is the most important room in the house, one that will be used by the family and seen by guests.
Here are some tips to help you set up a living room that is easy on the eye and easy for you to use.
Decide on one focal point for the living room. This could be your sofa set, your media wall, a large painting on a wall… anything, really. Once you decide this, pick furniture and decor designs that will help focus the attention on this part of the room
Don’t clutter up the room with a lot of items. If space is a challenge, consider getting multifunctional designs such as a divan that doubles as extra seating, modular sofas that can be configured depending on the occasion, and nested side tables in place of a conventional coffee table
Think beyond conventional sofa sets, and consider mixing and matching pieces for your living room. For instance, a daybed plus two armchairs can be a good substitute for a 3-1-1 sofa set.
If you have a large, spacious living room, consider using a bookshelf as a room divider and sectioning off a part of the room into a study or work nook
Keep the entryways (from the main entrance to the balcony doors and the doors of other rooms) free and unobstructed to allow easy movement. Leave at least 1.5 feet gap between furniture for people to walk around freely, more if you have kids or pets who are likely to run around
Furniture and decor pieces placed near walkways must be stable and sturdy. You don’t want them getting knocked down or broken if someone brushes against them by accident!
Make sure that the decor for the room, from lights to cushion covers, carpets, and curtains, complement each other, the colour of your seating, and that of the walls. The overall look can be perfectly coordinated or tastefully mismatched, whatever you prefer.
